Unveiling of the Wangari Maathai Plaque in Lima

The Green Belt Movement (GBM) we would thank the Municipality of San Borja, the District hosting the UNFCCC COP 20 (Lima, Peru) in planting a ceremonial tree in honor of the late Professor Wangari Maathai for her actions in promoting sustainable development, democracy, peace and environmental conservation through tree planting.

The Former First Lady, Mayor of San Borja, Mayor of San Isildro, Rodolfo Beltran, as well as Chair of the GBM Board and Project leader for the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace & Environmental Studies, Deputy Secretary General of the East African Community. The kenyan delegation was well represented with Hon Hon Murungi key note speech on ensuring the legacy of wangari maathai lives on. Others present include Dr Alice Kaudia- Environment secretary, Hon Keter,  Engeneer Moses Jura- climate change secretariat, GBM staff and other dignitaries attended.

We planted 10 trees and unveiled  a plaque in memory of Wangari Maathai.
