Climate Week 2011 is one of many of the positive steps that are being taken to combat climate change across Britain. Businesses, charities, schools, councils and others are running events during this week 21-27 of March 2011.

GBM’s Europe Office has, together with Pragya UK, Asian Foundation of Philanthropy and our landlord Ethical Property Company, set up lunchtime film screenings throughout Climate week. We are showing films dealing with climate change around the world, from the Himalayas to Kenya. ‘Taking Root’ is GBMI’s contribution, and it will be showcased on Thursday the 24th of March at 12.30. It tells the story of our founder Wangari Maathai and her struggle to safeguard the environment, protect human rights and defend democracy. We would love for you to join us, so just let us know beforehand by emailing gbmi@greenbeltmovement.org!

Climate week is your opportunity to take action and get involved! Join the events and talks around the country. Some ideas of activities could include doing a home screening of ‘Taking Root’ , bring together a group of friends to talk about what you can do locally about climate change, or even have a fundraiser to help Kenyan women plant trees and help reduce the impact of climate change. Or, why not take the opportunity to plant a tree?
