Memorial Tree Planting event in Washington, D.C.

Held in collaboration with the Kenyan Embassy, Casey Trees and the SAIS Africa Diaspora Association (ADA), the Wangari Gardens in Washington is hosting a memorial tree-planting event to honour the life of Wangari Maathai.

The event runs from 9am-12pm. The tree planting will be followed by an East African lunch, as well as children’s activities, including cooking demos, games and creative activities. In the evening, the film “TAKING ROOT: The Vision of Wangari Maathai” will be screened along with a community ‘bring-a-dish’ dinner. All are welcome to attend so please do come and join us to remember her.
