Prof. Mbaya to Speak at Mississippi State University

September 20, 2012 - 07:00PM
McCool Hall, Taylor Auditorium, Mississippi State University

Mississippi State University's first-year reading program, The Maroon Edition, has selected Wangari Maathai's autobiography, Unbowed: A Memoir, for the 2012-2013 academic year as part of the program.  Professor Vertistine Beaman Mbaya, honorary treasurer for the Green Belt Movement, long-time colleague of Wangari Maathai, and professor of biochemistry at the University of Nairobi, will speak on September 20th.  The university has a number of lectures, volunteer events, discussions, panels, concerts, and film screenings taking place during the fall semester, and continuing into the spring semester.  These events are inspired by the work of Wangari Maathai and the Green Belt Movement.  Various tree plantings will also occur on campus, and administrators will also distribute tree seedlings to members of the community.

See the Maroon Edition's Facebook page and event calendar for more details.
