GBM/Peponi House Charity Tree planting Partnership and Environmental Conservation initiative:
On 2nd November 2013, The Green Belt Movement and Peponi House Preparatory School embarked on a tree planting exercise in Karura Forest, at Wangari Maathai Corner in Karura forest to promote the “A Cleaner Environment for a Better Tomorrow as part of the schools awareness projects on environmental sustainability". The event was graced by GBM staff, Peponi House Parents Teachers Association (PTA) members and Peponi House pupils.
Environmental conservation is a worldwide concern. Kenya and the whole world are undergoing drastic climate changes. Climate change awareness therefore is the only way to make people informed on the importance and need for planting trees. The Green Belt Movement and Peponi School have realized the need by using Charity occasion in creating environmental awareness through Tree Planting.
During the Charity Tree Planting occasion GBM staff, Peponi House Parents Teachers Association (PTA) members and Peponi House pupil’s commendable support, successfully managed to plant 300 indigenous tree seedlings.
Effects of global warming have become real and the impact can be felt worldwide as country's come to terms with the changing weather patterns and climatic conditions. Through this planting, Peponi House Preparatory School intends to instill the practice of environment awareness to the lives of these young ones. This initiative is well in line with GBM’s vision to create a society of people who consciously work for continued improvement of their environment, and a greener, cleaner Kenya.
Also in during the event, a prayer in remembrance of Westgate victims was conducted in their honor.
Peponi House Preparatory School is a co-educational day prep school for children aged 6 to 13. The School is a multi-cultural community which encourages respect for self and others.
We at the Green Belt Movement, call upon organizations of goodwill to join us in creating more awareness on climate change and environment sustainability because tree is life.
