GBM Live Radio Broadcast - Tree planting with Pastoralists in Samburu County
The Green Belt Movement (GBM), through the support of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, is mobilizing the communities living around the Kirisia forest to rehabilitate the surrounding watersheds through the Green Belt Movement’s watershed based approach and engage communities in sustainable livelihood initiatives.
The Samburu community is composed mainly of pastoralists who depend on the forest services for their livelihoods. As part of the community mobilization, civic empowerment and environmental education strategy, GBM will take part in a show on Serian FM, the most popular local community radio in the region.
This first live community radio broadcast, hosted by Judy Kimamo (GBM’s Senior Project Officer), Mercy Karunditu (GBM’s Senior Project Officer) and Dr. Edward Lolokuru (from Nomotio Pastoralists Initiatives) will air tomorrow, Wednesday 13th June, from 10.00am to 12.30pm. A repeat program will be aired at 8.00pm. This will be the first program in a series to be aired weekly for the next 6 months.
