Launch of the Forest Resources Management Taskforce

This morning, the Deputy President William Ruto launched the Forest Resources Management and Logging Activities Task Force at his Karen office, Nairobi.

The DP pledged that the government will implement the recommendations of the taskforce which among other things, is to determine whether the ban on logging can be extended further and stating that this was not a public relations exercise.

Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko gazetted the 10 member multi-sectoral taskforce, headed by the Green Belt Movement Chair Marion Wakanyi Kamau, last week.

Speaking during the launch, Ms. Marion Kamau assured that the taskforce will adopt an inclusive participatory approach, and co-ordinate stakeholder consultations including public hearings at all levels.
