Inauguration of the 2nd Distinguished Chair for WMI
This morning, we had the pleasure of joining the University of Nairobi fraternity in an inauguration ceremony for the second Distinguished Chair of the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies, CAVS(WMI), Professor Kazuhiko Takeuchi.
WMI was initiated in 2009 to institutionalize, immortalize and honor the experiences, values and contributions to humanity of the 2004 Nobel Laureate Professor Wangari Muta Maathai. Professor Maathai was the first Distinguished Chair of WMI and since her demise, the University of Nairobihas now appointed the second Chair.
Prof. Takeuchi is a world-renown scientist and former Senior Vice-Rector of the United Nations University as well as a member of several high-level policy and scientific councils in Japan.
Speaking at the event, the new GBM chair Marion Kamau applauded the University’s decision and pledged the Green Belt Movement’s full support towards the Distinguished Chair and the Institute.
