25 September 2014: Marked the third memorial anniversary of the late Nobel laureate and environmentalist, Prof Wangari Maathai, at Wangari Maathai Corner, Karura forest in the capital, Nairobi.
The United Nations Climate Summit is taking place on September 23rd in New York City and will be attended by more than 100 heads of state.

The Green Belt Movement (GBM) participated in the 10km Ndakaini Half Marathon as an endeavour to support the sustainable supply of safe water to the Ndakaini Dam through conservation of the catchment area. Ndakaini Dam is supported by the Upper Tana—Nairobi water fund project, Murang'a County.

A Catholic Church-run College (University) in the US has honoured Prof Wangari Maathai posthumously. The Benedictine College, formerly Mount Scholastica College, unveiled a statue of the late Prof Maathai, which formed part of the weeklong activities marking the 50th anniversary of the college’s 1964 graduates last month.
2nd July 2014: The Rockefeller Foundation, the Green Belt Movement and Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF) presented the 2nd Wangari Maathai Scholarship Fund Award. The event took place, at the Green Belt Movement Offices in Kilimani.

Nairobi, 5 June 2014 – A unique worldwide tree planting initiative, as we marked World Environment Day’s theme: Raise Your Voices, Not the Sea Level. The GBM in partnership with the Hilton Hotel and the Kenya High School teamed up to mark the day. The event, at the start of the country’s rainy season, is one of many taking place under the joint initiative of the Green Belt Movement to plant 20,000 trees towards a cleaner and greener Nairobi. The school situated, about 7 km from the city centre and covers approximately 100 acres.
Monday, 19/5, a special event in celebrating the legacy of Nobel Laureate Prof. Wangari Maathai and to commemorate the 10th anniversary of her Nobel Peace Prize was organized by the Kenyan Mission, in collaboration with the Green Belt Movement International (GBMI), the UN Forum on Forests, the Women’s Environment & Development Organization (WEDO) and the International Council of Women (ICW).

On May 10, 2014, over 300 students at Nairobi School teamed up with the Green Belt Movement Staff and the Kenya Defense Force planted over 2,000 trees within the school compound.
Prof. Wangari Maathai was a Member of the Earth Charter Commission; she offered valuable contributions to the discussions generated by the Earth Charter drafting process.
